A new $344 million glass recycling factory in Georgia

A new solar panel glass recycling company is set to inaugurate a fresh plant in Cedartown, Georgia, marking the pioneering endeavor of its kind in the United States. Solarcycle executives have revealed plans to inject an approximate $344 million investment into the venture, slated to generate 600 new permanent positions.

Anticipated as a groundbreaking move, the forthcoming facility aims to position the company as a frontrunner in the U.S. market for specialized glass tailored for crystalline-silicon photovoltaics. With an annual production capacity of five to six gigawatts of solar glass, the plant is poised to play a pivotal role in addressing the nation’s supply chain gaps, facilitating the local manufacture of additional solar panels.

Suvi Sharma, CEO and co-founder, emphasized the burgeoning landscape of solar panel manufacturing in Georgia, expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration and the establishment of the recycled solar glass plant in Cedartown. The initiative is expected to bolster the state’s economy with numerous well-compensated job opportunities while advancing the industry’s ambition of fostering wholly American-made renewable energy solutions.

Situated within the Cedartown North Business Park, a certified Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD) site, the facility is scheduled to commence construction in 2024, targeting operational readiness by 2026. Beyond the creation of manufacturing, engineering, management, research, and design roles, the venture is poised to provide essential support staff positions. This marks Solarcycle’s inaugural foray into glass manufacturing alongside its core recycling operations, marking a significant milestone in its mission to drive sustainability in the solar energy sector.
